About the holiday
Israel’s day of remembrance for the six million murdered in the Holocaust, set in 1951 on the twenty-seventh of Nisan, close to the anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto uprising. At ten in the morning a two-minute siren sounds across the country and everything stops, traffic on the motorway included. Names are read aloud. There is nothing here to celebrate.
