About the holiday
Five days after Yom Kippur the mood turns: a hut goes up in the garden or on the balcony, roofed loosely enough that the stars show through. It remembers forty years of living in tents in the desert and doubles as the autumn harvest festival. Every morning four species — palm, myrtle, willow and citron — are held together and waved to the four directions.
